These medical images reveal details from the human body. Shapes that are hidden from the human eye. We are filled with marvelous patterns and intricate systems. Fascinating as they are, when these structures are exposed, they often evoke discomfort or even revulsion. Are we hardwired to feel this way? Perhaps because exposure signals danger, reminding us of our fragility. An opened body speaks of injury, of mortality. In this sense, abjection functions as a form of protection.By dissecting these medical images, I mimic the unpleasant, yet what emerges is the human, where these details belong. Here, nature also enters, as another link in the connections between the smallest and the greater elements of our world.
