Are women who fight taboo?

It feels almost unnatural that a woman would choose violence, even inside the rules of sport.

Culture tells her to nurture, to be soft and caring. The instinct assigned to her is to mother. In

subverting these expectations, she must fight even harder for acceptance.

Marie dreams of becoming the best in a male-dominated sport: Mixed Martial Arts, which is

illegal to compete professionally in Norway.

She is a rare breed. I am fascinated by her determination and I admire her guts.

Is she abnormal for not fearing pain, for walking into the ring knowing she may be badly hurt?

I told her I think she is crazy, and she agreed.

The philosopher Julia Kristeva defines Abject as what society expels in order to preserve order.

The violent woman is exactly that: a disruptive body rejecting the ideals of softness and

obedience. She threatens not only through her fists, but by destabilizing gender itself.

Society calls it unfeminine. Her raw force exposes the fragility of the norms and what

womanhood looks like.

Go Marie.
